Behind the Music: A Conversation with Patrick Dupre Quigley on Seraphic Fire’s 2025–26 Season

Artistic Director Patrick Dupre Quigley shares what makes the upcoming Seraphic Fire season so special.

At Seraphic Fire, each concert season is more than a calendar of performances. It’s a reflection of our values, our artistic vision, and our connection to South Florida. For our 2025–26 Season, we invited Artistic Director Patrick Dupre Quigley to share his thoughts on the programs that make up this extraordinary year.

Celebrating Our Roots, Expanding the Reach

“This season is a homecoming,” Patrick explains. “It’s built around the music that defines who we are and what our audiences have grown to love. The Best of Seraphic Fire isn’t just a greatest hits program—it’s a love letter to our community.”

The October opening concert, led by James K. Bass, sets the tone with music that longtime supporters will recognize instantly. Pieces like Earth Song by Frank Ticheli and O Magnum Mysterium by Morten Lauridsen offer a glimpse into Seraphic Fire’s soul, with the power to welcome newcomers and longtime fans alike.

Bringing the Past to Life

Patrick takes special pride in November’s Bach Motets, a concert he describes as “one of the most ambitious and rewarding things we do as a professional choir.” These six motets, rarely performed as a complete set, demand precision, stamina, and profound musicality.

“People often think of Baroque music as distant or overly ornate,” he says. “But in performance, this music feels incredibly alive. It speaks to something very human and deeply moving.”

A Holiday Season with Heart

The December program, ’Twas the Night Before Christmas, promises to be a new tradition in the making. With classic carols and storytelling woven together, Patrick sees this concert as “joyful, lighthearted, and a little nostalgic—but still rooted in great music-making.”

American Sounds with New Energy

Two of the most vibrant programs come in the second half of the season. In January, guest conductor Jason Max Ferdinand returns with Gospel, a program Patrick calls “electrifying.”

“He brings out something so real in our singers. It’s emotional, it’s technically masterful, and it resonates with every kind of audience,” Patrick says.

Then in February, American Folk shines a spotlight on music that’s often passed down by ear. “This music connects us to our history and to each other,” Patrick explains. “There’s a directness to it, an honesty. It reminds us that great music doesn’t have to be complicated—it just has to be true.”

Candlelight and Immersion

March’s Candlelight program offers a unique sensory experience. With the theme of water and nature running through the repertoire, and the warm glow of candlelight filling the space, Patrick says this concert “feels like a meditation. The audience becomes part of the atmosphere.”

The season closes with Surround Sound, where singers encircle the audience. “We’ve done this before, but it never gets old,” Patrick notes. “It’s spatial music, written to be heard all around you. It’s immersive, unexpected, and the perfect capstone to a season about connection and impact.”

Why This Season Matters

When asked what he hopes audiences take away from this season, Patrick doesn’t hesitate.

“I hope they feel the love we’ve put into it. This season is a gift to our community, to the people who’ve supported us, and to those who are just discovering us. There’s nothing like hearing this music live.”

From Miami to Naples, from Baroque motets to gospel spirituals, the 2025–26 Season is a journey through time, genre, and emotion.

If you’ve ever wondered what makes Seraphic Fire one of the top professional choirs in Florida, this is the season to find out.
